JC Aguirre (Mexico City, Mexico) holds a degree in Artes Visuales from the Universidad de Guanajuato. Their artistic practice—fluctuating between textiles, drawing and photography—draws from the experiences, stories and family memories rooted in their place of origin, the lake town of Xochimilco. Such experiences have transformed and manifested their right to be and identify as queer.
In 2023, Aguirre participated in the seminar “Seminario Teorías Queer y Subversivas” at the Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios de Género at the Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM) and in the seminar “Seminario-laboratorio de imágenes: memorias visuales y contra visuales” at the Universidad Iberoamericana also in 2023. Additionally, they have participated in various other seminars for artistic production and analysis at the Facultad de Artes y Diseño at UNAM (including the seminar HINDITEX; Ornament as Resistance and Reaffirmation of Gender Performativity and the seminar Laboratorio de Arte, Diseño, Curaduría y Activismo CUIR). Aguirre is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Artes Visuales at UNAM.
